BILL RICHARDSON- RIGHT FOR AMERICA

Bill Richardson

William Blaine "Bill" Richardson III was born on November 15, 1947 in Pasadena California to parents of Mexican descent. He attended Tufts University where he was a star baseball pitcher with hopes of going professional before an arm injury curtailed that dream. While at Tufts he studied French and political science. He later earned a master's degree from the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tuft's. He married Barbara Flavin in 1972, the couple having known each other since High School.

Richardson's history of service is exemplary. From 1983 to 1997 Richardson represented New Mexico's 3rd Congressional District in Washington. From 1997 to 1998 he served in the crucial role United States Ambassador to the United Nations. From 1998 to 2001 he occupied the position of Secretary of Energy in the Clinton Administration and since 2003 Richardson has been serving New Mexico as its 30th Governor.

Richardson has stated that he is a pro-choice democrat and supports affirmative-action. He is also pro-death penalty and supports gun rights. While he did vote for the Defense of Marriage Act in 1996, he has since worked closely with Gay and Lesbian community to address sexual orientation issues in New Mexico.

Richardson has a balanced political view and a record of exemplary public service that can appeal to all Americans.
